Frequently Asked Questions1.) When will I be notified of my class dates, times & instructor? After registering online you will receive a confirmation email within 48 hours stating that we received your registration. The email will also contain a date that we will have information regarding your class confirmation date. For group classes you will receive class information at least two days before your class session is schedule to begin, whenever possible. For group classes you will receive class information by the Friday before your class session is schedule to begin, whenever possible. If your class information is not available yet you will receive an email with more information. For private and semiprivate lessons we try to set your lessons up with 2 days of the request whenever possible. Feel free to contact the swim lesson coordinator if more information is needed.
.) I registered online but have not heard from anyone, what should I do now? If you did not receive a confirmation email within 48 hours, please contact the swim lesson coordinator. Please check your spam mail to make sure that the emails are not going there and add Allison@a-beautifulpools.com to your address book to ensure you receive future emails. There could have been an error made when typing your email address or other information on your form or an error could have occurred on our end of the registration. Please contact Allison at Allison@a-beautifulpools.com or by phone at 832-439-7388.
.) How long will it take for my child to learn to swim? This is a common question but unfortunately there is no definite concrete answer. The answer to this question varies depending on multiple factors including lesson type, age, willingness of the child to learn, previous experiences, speed of learning, natural ability and others. The best thing for your child is to take consistent lessons during the summer and practice with your child while you are at the pool with them. Use the same words and teaching methods the instructor uses in class when you are at the pool with them. Instructors are trained to work with each child individually based on their skills and needs. They will not push a child to do more than they are capable. Some children may learn to swim across the pool in a couple summer sessions while others may only learn a few new skills. Celebrate every small milestone your child achieves during their classes.
.) What does my child need to bring to class? Are goggles allowed? Should I bring floaties? Your child only needs to bring a towel and come dressed in his/her swimsuit. We do allow children to swim with goggles although we recommend children try to swim without them if possible. If a child ever forgets their goggles we want them to still be able to swim and not be completely dependent on them. If your child is used to swimming with goggles we are more than happy to let them use goggles – we want them to be comfortable. We do not want students wearing floaties during swim lessons; we want them to learn how to swim on their own. If your child has a tendency to not sit still on the stairs while the instructor is working with another student, please sit by the stairs during the lesson.
.) My child did not participate much in the first lesson/my child is crying, what should I do? It is common for some children to be apprehensive during the first lesson or so. Some children have a fear of water, new people, etc… but this typically goes away after a lesson or two. We require a parent/guardian to be at the pool during lessons but if your child has an issue with separation anxiety please talk to the instructor; it may be better for you to watch from a distance at the pool. Our instructors will use games, songs, toys to encourage your child to participate. Feel free to talk to the instructor or swim lesson coordinator if this continues to be an issue.
.) Am I required to get in the pool with my child? Do I need to be at the pool during lessons? Parents are only required to get in the pool if the child is in a parent/tot class. We do require a parent/guardian to be at the pool at the time of lessons. For younger children in a full group class we ask that the parents stay by the stairs where the class is being conducted. Sometimes children have a tendency to get excited and jump off the steps only to realize they can’t swim by themselves yet. The instructor instructs all children to sit on the steps while working with another student but we ask that you watch your children and remind them of this as well. All parents are given an information sheet at the time of lessons with our policies.
.) I need to speak to someone about swim lessons who do I contact? Please contact the swim lesson coordinator, Allison, either by phone (832-439-7388) or email Allison@a-beautifulpools.com . She does not work in the office daily so please feel free to contact her directly. She will make every effort possible to return your phone call or email within 24 hours.
.) Why is there a $5 registration fee? This registration fee holds your child’s spot in class. It is a one-time per family, per summer, non-refundable fee. This ensures us that you are serious about getting a spot in class and helps cover our cost of lesson set-up. We will “hold” a spot for your child and work on getting their lessons started as soon as possible once this registration fee has been paid. Most other companies charge more for lessons and a registration fee; some charge as much as a $40 registration fee. We have held our prices to be one of the lowest in the industry and have not increased our prices during the past 3 years. You do not have to pay this fee more than once if you register again for later sessions.
.) When do I pay for the lessons I registered for? You will receive an email confirmation with lesson dates, times, instructor information and payment information at least two days prior to the start of a group session. For private and semiprivate lessons, you will receive an email confirmation after registration with further information. As soon as your lessons have been confirmed you will receive a confirmation number to use on our online payment form (available starting May 28th). Payments must be received with 24 hours of the first lesson. Payments can also be made online through our swim lesson coordinator. See the Swim Lesson Policy page for further information.
